For Parents....
LifeBoat is an exciting initiative whose purpose is to provide a fun, respectful, safe and friendly environment for youth who are currently in years 7 or 8. Youth Groups have traditionally been a great way for kids to establish healthy, strong, and often life-long friendships in a safe environment. The activities are designed to be fun and sometimes a little ‘strange’ (have a look at the activity schedule and you’ll see what I mean).
LifeBoat typically meets on most Fridays nights. A schedule of activities is provided for each school term and includes all details such as costs, locations, what to bring along etc. Every attempt is made to keep activity costs to a minimum.
LifeBoat is run by volunteer youth leaders who are members of the Albert Park / Port Melbourne Baptist Church. Providing a safe place for kids, is one of our highest priorities. All youth leaders involved in LifeBoat have completed the Victorian State Government’s new ‘Working With Children’ (WWC) requirements which include police checks. Each activity will be attended by a minimum of two adult youth leaders which will include one male and one female. The number of youth leaders taking part in activities will increase in proportion to the number of kids and the type of activity.
The drop-off point for most activities will be either the church property at 115 Kerferd Rd (cnr Richardson St), Albert Park or the other church property at 66 Ross St, Port Melbourne. As part of the WWC requirements parents will need to sign-in their children when they arrive and sign them out when they pick them up. Parents will also need to complete the Indemnity & Permission Form (refer below) and hand it to a Youth Leader on arrival at the first activity. This form need only be submitted once per calendar year.
Parents may contact a youth leader at any time during an event. A mobile phone contact number will be provided on the Activity Schedule for each event.
